There are a lot of new rides coming to the Walt Disney World resort in 2021 and 2022. Some on time, and others delayed. Out of all of them, the one I’m most excited about is Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. This is a brand new ride design, using state of the art technology. This ride will be the world’s first roller coaster to have cars that spin 360 degrees. In fact, it’s got an entirely new name: omnicoaster. This is why Disney is describing it as a “storytelling” coaster – allowing guests to be rotated along the ride track to focus on different angles and views. This name is taken from the traditional Disney Omnimover ride system, such as the one used in Spaceship Earth.
The World’s First Omnicoaster
In the past five years, Disney Imagineering has certainly stepped up their game. However, some of the rides they are opening are duplicates from other parks around the world. In particular: Remy’s Ratatouille coming to Epcot (from Disneyland Paris) and TRON Lightcycle (from Shanghai Disneyland).
Disney Imagineering recently released new footage of them testing out these cars. Until now, we’d only see life-size models on display at D23. It’s amazing to see it in action:
Add in the fact that the ride will include a launch, will go forward and backward, have music and sound onboard (not to mention it’s in Disney’s largest show building they’ve ever built) and you have the makings for an amazing experience! Plus, the fact that Guardians of the Galaxy is such a fun brand, you know there’s going to be screams…and laughs much like the re-do of Disneyland’s old Hollywood Tower of Terror.
What are you most excited about for this ride? The fact that it’s so innovative? Or that now Epcot will finally have a real roller coaster? Or, perhaps that we’ll be closer to getting rid of more construction walls?
