How to Beat Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin

One of my favorite rides at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom is Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. It is hard to believe it’s almost 25 years old! The ride’s popularity led to a version of it being added to every Disney park in the world. That’s a claim to fame that puts it in company with a select few (if any?) other attractions. Over the years, the ride design has evolved, improved, and has had different names at the various parks. Only in Disneyland Hong Kong has it been replaced.

Did You Know There’s a High Score for Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin?

Have you ever wondered how to become a Galactic Hero by beating Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom? If you’re like me, you shoot shoot shoot, and no matter how many Z targets you get, it’s never enough to max out at 1,000,000! Thanks to Haley, a fellow Disney World fan that goes by ReadySetJetSet on TikTok – we now know which Z targets offer bonus points.

The targets you want to look out for include:

  • Z targets on BOTH sides of the Boxobot’s LEFT hand – 100,000 points PER HIT!
  • The Z target on the Claw is worth 100,000 points PER HIT!
  • The top Z target on the Volcano is worth 25,000 points PER HIT!
  • The bottom Z target on the FIRST Zurg you see is worth 100,000 points PER HIT!

The best part about maxing out your points – besides bragging rights? Wearing these stickers with pride:

Just ask a cast member when you’re departing the ride!

Wrapping Up The Magic

When visiting the Magic Kingdom, my friends and I are always up for a trip around the galaxy with Buzz. The first time we rode this after finding this TikTok, I was overly confident in my abilities. Even if you know where to shoot, it’s still not that easy! The blasters (guns) on this version of the ride are attached to the vehicle. That makes it incredibly difficult to hit all those hard-to-reach targets – due to a lack of horizontal and vertical range. Newer versions such as Buzz Lightyears Astro Blasters at Disneyland have laser guns that remove from their mounts. I’ve been guilty of riding Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin no less than 5 times in a row in an attempt to become a Galactic Hero. The highest score I’ve gotten is just shy of 750,000. But I’ll keep going (to Infinity and Beyond) until I hit that 999,999!
